1951-08-21 Strike To End Monday

More than 500 striking employees of the J. Wiss & Sons Co. cutlery manufacturing plant, 31 Littleton avenue, are scheduled to return to work Monday, ending a walkout that has tied up production since August 15.

Local 301 of the CIO Plaything, Jewelry and Novelty Workers made no announcement, but it was reliably reported that the majority of the strikers met this morning at the Club Park Central, 388 West Market street, and voted to return to work and to have the union's recognition fight with the company turned over the State Mediation Board.

A company spokesman confirmed the report of a Monday return to work, declared the next move was up to the union. He asserted the mediation board had not approached the company. Frank T. Taylor, a board mediator, said he had just gotten into the case to act in the absence on vacation of Alan Weisenfeld, the boards' secretary and did not know all the background.
